It was the summer of 1975. I was working as a mate on the head boat Katie D. The inaugural small boat marlin tournament was scheduled in August, so I decided to enter.

The Doriel II was a 19' Barcone Center Console that I bought new in 1972. It was named after my mother Doris, (Do), my sister Robin,(ri), and my girlfriend, latter to be wife Ellen, (el).
